How are HSEP classes preparing you to lead?
There’s a real emphasis on preparing students for the diversity of real-world problems in this program, so you learn from focusing on—nuclear proliferation one week and cyberterrorism the next week—the skills and agility required in this field.
What is the best part of the HSEP program?
The faculty are amazing here. All of my professors have gone above and beyond in supporting and encouraging me. And those relationships don’t end when a class ends; I get regular emails from faculty I met in my first semester here about opportunities for the future. That’s special.
What professional and personal goals would you like to accomplish with your HSEP degree?
Beyond professional elevation, I’d say I was really [looking] for fulfillment in my career. It’s so early on in my journey, but I was really [looking] for a knowledge base that would keep me feeling rewarded and excited. I was really looking for a career that would help me serve a purpose higher than myself—something that would allow me to focus on vulnerable communities. I think I’ve really found that with this program.
If you were to recommend this program to a colleague, what would you say?
Just enjoy it… This program is like a buffet. You’re going to be served by so many extraordinary professors who will excite and inspire you to pursue all of the really diverse specialties within this profession. I would tell everyone to really soak it in as much as possible.
